CrossFit Peabody: The Importance of Staying Hydrated

It’s been hot as HELL out there lately!

And I have a feeling it’s just going to continue getting worse!!

Coach Chell is coming at ya today with a great read on The Importance of Staying Hydrating in this especially hot July/August weather!

Hey Badasses!!

I know that you all know how important drinking water is! Especially with the summer months here. I just wanted to drop a little note to remind everyone the importance of proper hydration and the fitness benefit to it!

Keeping properly hydrated is important all of the time.

Not just when working out. It is good for your whole body health!

Water helps to keep your body cool, helps with the movements of your joints, helps clean out the toxins of your body, helps to promote healthy muscle, and healthy digestive tract, and so many more things.

When we workout, we workout hard!

And we sweat a lot!

Which means a TON water leaving your body.

We really need to A) have the water there that you will lose in a workout and B) replace it after it is sweat out.

So drinking water before, during and after your workout is very important. PUT THE COFFEE DOWN!!

Water is not the only tool for hydration. A healthy diet also keeps you hydrated. Vegetables are loaded with water!! So you don’t just have to drink that boring 8oz of water a day!!

If you have noticed that in the past couple weeks, you are more tired, or your workouts seem forever long or super hard…..try hydrating a bit more than usual!

Being dehydrated can cause fatigue, and slow down your workouts.

Sweat is the body’s way of keeping you cool during the hot weather. So when you exercise you will sweat more. Causing loss of water to the body. This will cause your dehydration.

A couple easy ways to tell if you need more water…..your skin will feel tight and dry.

Your urine will be darker and less frequent. If you are not urinating a few times a day….DRINK WATER!!

If you are getting increasingly more fatigue throughout the day…..DRINK WATER!

If you are not moving your bowels….DRINK WATER!! I know kind of personal….but it is very important and we care about all of you and want you to be happy and HEALTHY!

Drink when you are thirsty, drink when you feel hungry as well. Sometimes the body will have a hunger response when you just need some fluids. So make sure you are having fluids with each meal. This can help with weight loss in a healthy way, drinking water with your meals will help you to fill up faster as well as help with hydration!

I know that drinking plain old water can get super boring….so add some fruits to it. Lemon or cucumber. Some basil or mint. It makes it so much easier.

And with the warm weather….some strawberries and basil in a cold glass of water sounds pretty refreshing!

So please Bad Asses stay hydrated! 

A great rule of thumb for proper hydration is:

.5 – 1.0 x your bodyweight in ounces of water per day! YEP…per day!

So if you weigh 160, you’re taking in 80 – 160 ounces per day.
