CrossFit Peabody Member of the Month: Sophia Stamos
Congratulations to our June Member of the Month (otherwise known as Bad Ass of the Month) Sophia Stamos
WOW!!! Does time fly?!
I still remember, 4 years later, the very first conversation Sophia and I had in my office about her goals.
Back then she was not in a good place. I mean she was in an awesome spot – she just had her very first baby (so so exciting!) but she was up 60lbs and NOT happy!
That was milestone number ONE – drop the 60lbs she gained!
Fast forward 4 years and I can now say that Sophia has conquered that goal TWICE (she has two amazing children!) plus soooo many more.
Sophia may be quiet in the gym but she is FIERCE!! She is strong, consistent and dedicated to showing up, giving her best every single week – for 4 years. Not too many people can say that.
She has been an incredible member of our community and I am so excited to celebrate her as June’s Bad Ass of the Month!
So without further ado, let’s get to know Sophia!
When did you start CrossFit and why?
I started 4 years ago when the gym was called BeFit Health and Wellness. I gained over 60 pounds with my first baby and was not feeling very good about myself.
Do you remember your first WOD?
To be honest, the first workout was a bit of a blur. I just wanted to get through it without passing out. What I do remember is I had a VERY hard time going down the stairs. My legs felt like jelly.
What class do you typically train at?
During the school months, I usually attend the 3:30 PM or 5:30 PM classes. I like to go the 6:00 AM or 9:30 AM classes in the summer though.
What is your favorite workout?
My favorite workout is a Tabata.
What is one movement you LOVE and one movement you HATE?
I LOVE back squats and I do not enjoy rowing, at all.
Any BIG goals set for the next year?
My goals for next year are to get at least one double under and toes to bar.
How has CrossFit helped you?
The hardest, but best decision I ever made was to join CrossFit. It has helped me become more confident both physically and emotionally. I have realized that although I may be small, I am strong and mighty. I have learned what it means to persevere and am proud of all of my accomplishments at the gym.
Tell us one fun fact about you?
I am addicted to chocolate and have at least one piece every day.
You were left on a deserted island. What one food and thing (i.e. book, music player, etc…) would you want to be left with you?
If I was left on a deserted island, I would bring chocolate and a family photo.
Who is your superhero?
My mom is my superhero.
What is your greatest achievement in the gym so far?
My greatest achievement in the gym so far is that I am able to run longer distances without feeling winded or ready to pass out.
What’s your best tip for new members?
My best tip to new members is to not miss a class because you think it is too hard. You will feel so much better about yourself once the workout is complete.
What motivates and inspires you?
My two daughters motivate and inspire me everyday. I am their number one role model, so it’s up to me to teach them what it means to be a good person, and to always do the right thing.
