CrossFit Peabody Member of the Month: Mary Vinagro
Congratulations to Mary Vinagro for earning the title of Bad Ass of the Month!!
It’s crazy to think, but Mary joined CrossFit Peabody almost 4 years ago.
Although she joined to lose weight and get in shape, she’s done so much more than that.
But her results are pretty damn impressive – she’s dropped 52lbs and has gone from a size 16 to a size 4/6.
Over the past almost 4 years, I’ve not only had the opportunity to coach Mary as an athlete in our gym, but she has become a true friend.
Watching her accomplishments inside the gym, her fitness feats outside the gym, her growth as a person to do, be and have everything in this life that makes her happy, truly makes me happy!
Thank you Mary for being a friend. Thank you for being an awesome member of our community. I absolutely can’t wait to see what the next 4 years brings!!
Thank you for everything!
So without further ado, get to know Mary!
When did you start CrossFit and why?
I started alongside my partners in crime (Candi and Diane) way back in April 2014 (I think). We had been hearing about this place in Peabody. We had been doing a bootcamp together and weren’t seeing the results we wanted. We also wanted to go to a place that had a 5am class.
Do you remember your first WOD?
I remember not understanding anything that was being said. None of the acronyms made sense, I had no idea how to do any of the movements, I worked my butt off and was completely exhausted at the end even though I had no idea what I had just done. Oh and the after workout pain…..I remember that.
What class do you typically train at?
I am an early morning 5 am-er UNLESS it is a school vacation day. Then I will probably make it to the 6. I will do my best to NEVER miss a Saturday 8:30 workout. Those are some of my most favorite WODs.
What is your favorite workout?
Again, Sat metabolic workouts are my FAV. I love just giving it everything I’ve got just to try to make it through to the end. Then collapse on the floor. Love that feeling.
What is one movement you LOVE and one movement you HATE?
HMMMM …. Love and Hate toes to bar. When my toes hit that bar I am so happy and I love them. But I’ve been struggling with that stinkin’ movement for what seems like forever. So I hate it. I do LOVE deadlifts.
Any BIG goals set for the next year?
YUP. Looking to run another 1/2 marathon in April. Gettting kipping toes to bar consistently is an ALWAYS goal of mine.
How has CrossFit helped you?
Seriously? Crossfit has helped me in everything. I am stronger, more confident. I eat better, sleep better. When I’m able to workout my moods are 100% more positive. Lost tons of weight (not really tons but it feels that way to me). I’ve been able to compete in events that I never thought I’d ever be able to do in my 40s. (spartan sprint, super and 2 beasts last year plus a 1/2 marathon). The friendships I have made through CFP are ones that mean the world to me.
Tell us one fun fact about you?
Fun fact? I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan too. Teaching the littles everyday keeps me young.
You were left on a deserted island. What one food and thing (i.e. book, music player, etc…) would you want to be left with you?
Food is Hobbs popcorn and thing would be a giant coloring book with crayons
Who is your superhero?
My superhero was my Dad.
What is your greatest achievement in the gym so far?
My greatest achievement was a while ago but it was the rope climb.
What’s your best tip for new members?
Do not get frustrated. There are days and weeks when things just don’t go your way in the gym and you have to laugh them off. One day you may be able to do something and the next day it’s gone. Believe me, it happens all the time. Just let it go. I think I need to remember to take my own advice.
What motivates and inspires you?Other members. Watching their accomplishments. Seeing how excited they get for each other when someone achieves a goal.
