CrossFit Peabody Member Of The Month: Amanda Gibson

By: 0

Congratulations to Amanda Gibson for earning the title of Bad Ass of the Month for May!!

Since Amanda walked through our doors 1.5 years ago, I knew she was going to be a CrossFit badass!!

Over that time she’s not only lost weight and inches, but she’s hit some pretty BIG PRs in the gym….including her more recent 255lb Back Squat 1RM!

There’s never a day that Amanda doesn’t come into the gym with a smile and ready to just have fun!

Over the past few months she’s been battling through a shoulder injury, but you’d literally have no idea. She’s hit the gym equally has hard, hasn’t used it to keep her out the gym and has made some amazing fitness and fat loss accomplishments over the past 12 weeks.

Community. Friendships. Effort. Fun.

That’s what CFP is all about.

In addition to making goofy faces walking by the office windows (love that!) you’ll ALWAYS see her cheering on members in her class and pushing everyone to get after it!

So without further ado, lets get to know Amanda!

When did you start CrossFit and why?

I believe it was the end of October 2016. A friend had started going and liked it. I was happy kickboxing and going to a “regular” gym, but I was spending 5-6 days a week and doing multiple sessions each day. I was exhausted and wasn’t seeing the exact results I was looking for. I figured it would be a good time to check out CrossFit!

Do you remember your first WOD (Workout of the Day)?

Not specifically. I remember at one point during my first few there was some rope climbing involved and I immediately felt like a giant dip$hit. I was confident I made the wrong choice by joining!

What class do you typically train at?

Weekdays 5:30 pm/ Saturday 9:30/ Sunday am

What is your favorite workout?

Duh – anything with squats. I’m a fan of the strength training as a whole. I don’t have a favorite WOD. Any WOD I complete without dying is my favorite.

What is one movement you LOVE and one movement you HATE?

Back squats and running respectively … running is a movement, right? If not, then thrusters can go to H-E-double hockey sticks.

Any BIG goals set for the next year? Fitness related?

I’ll be damned if I don’t get a friggen pull-up in the next year. I still need to lose a bit of fat/poundage as well.  Oh… double unders. More than 10 in a row consistently would be nice.

How has CrossFit helped you?

Other than giving me more confidence than I thought possible at my size, I have made the best friendships because of CrossFit.  I am blown away at the strength of the relationships I’ve developed so quickly.

Tell us one fun fact about you?

Other than the fact that I hate this question? Umm… I push myself out of my comfort zone on a regular basis even though I dread and despise every second of being uncomfortable! I know it helps me grow, but it bothers me that I can’t quantify that growth!

If you were left on a deserted island.  What one food and thing (i.e. book, music player, etc…) would you want to be left with you?

The responsible side of me wants to say something that would assist me in survival like unlimited peanut butter and a machete… but the irresponsible side of me says pizza and unlimited data on my phone… hello Pandora and Candy Crush! 😂

Who is your superhero?

These questions are so hard! I’m not sure if you’re being literal!! My husband is my literal superhero.

He’s always putting others first and works so hard day in and day out to make sure the city he works in is safe.

In superhero world, I’d have to go ahead and say Batman. He uses his riches to keep the streets safe. Even without superpowers, he is still able to reach peak mental and physical strength which sort of makes him relatable to a regular person.

What is your greatest achievement in the gym so far?

That’s a tossup! I’m torn between actually showing up during a membership lasting over a year and joining the 200# club with my back squat.

What’s your best tip for new members?

Stick to it! It’s incredibly overwhelming at first! There are still days when I have to think about what a particular movement involves, but that’s what the community and coaches are for! Someone is always there to help you fill in the blanks!

What motivates and inspires you?
We would like to bring a child into this world. I see parents who can barely do anything physical with their kids, and I don’t want to be that parent.
I want to be the healthiest and strongest I can be for as long as possible so I’m not missing out on ANYTHING!
